#HubavaRabota: What are the political reactions to homophobia in Bulgaria?

#HubavaRabota is the new video project of Slava Doycheva and "Youth LGBT organization Action", which presents in an interesting way the hypothetical positions that the leading parties would take in response to the wave of violence against the LGBTI+ community in Bulgaria in recent months.

Director Slava Doycheva says: "In making it, I realized how much words like justice, solidarity and equality have become devalued in political mouths... But I still believe that the heart can respond and silence will not protect anyone. Do what you have to do and let it be what it will. Vote."

The only party to come out during Pride month stating support for the rights of the LGBTI community and condemning homophobic attacks is the Green Movement, which is part of the Democratic Bulgaria coalition.

"The Green Movement categorically declares itself against the manifestations of aggression against groups of society in Bulgaria regardless of their gender and sexual orientation. Bulgaria is a state governed by the rule of law, equal treatment of people is guaranteed by the Constitution. More than ever, Bulgaria needs free people who can fulfil their potential for the good of all, without fear or worry for their lives."

Since 2014 LGBT Youth Deystvie has been providing free counselling and legal assistance to people from the LGBTI community for violations of their rights. You can register on our legal platform through this link: pravo.deystvie.org.

This publication is produced in the framework of the National LGBTI Legal Programme project. The main goal of the project is to empower the LGBTI community by providing direct access to legal protection through the National LGBTI Legal Programme in the cities of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas and Veliko Tarnovo. The filing of cases leads to official national statistics and official coverage of an existing problem, which in turn will lead to changes in legislation and improved lives for LGBTI people in Bulgaria.
